Body + Mind = One:

An initial step toward wellness involves understanding your body and mind are integrated elements of your “whole” self. As you proactively assume responsibility for your well-being, recognize that what adversely affects body or mind, eventually affects your total being or self, in the form of distress or disease.

In simpler terms, physical ailments are usually directly related to unresolved emotional or mental stress. It may take years for an ailment to manifest within the body, so learning to reverse or resolve emotional or mental stress is a proactive, preventive measure against body ailments. This, of course, requires focus and commitment to developing positive methods to relieve mental and/or emotional stress.

This commitment should manifest in a regular practice, to consistently aid your system to achieve and maintain balance. We can assume responsibility to employ such methods as meditation, conscious breathing exercises, creating and using positive affirmations and intents, regular physical exercise, maintaining healthful diets, and obtaining proper rest.

There are a number of positive, holistic techniques available to individuals, to proactively reduce stress, achieve balanced energy and focus on positively affecting one’s health. A clue to understanding holistic health is knowing a pain or distress in one’s system should not be viewed in a vacuum, rather as an effect of some stress or imbalance representing the cause or origin of the imbalance. So, distress in your neck, shoulders or chest may be directly related to a stressful job or situation in your life. Over years, continued stress or emotional strife can manifest in diseased organs or chronic pain in muscles or joints.

Pay attention to messages your body sends, and reflect on what is currently on your mind or emotional agenda, as well. Consciously respond to physical discomfort by setting a positive intent to be a healthy, content individual. Repeat this intent or affirmation on a daily basis, and notice how that affects the amount of rest to which you commit, the activities in which you engage, what you eat, and thoughts that hold your focus. Hopefully, you will recognize how your mind and body work together with your consciousness to help you achieve your intent.

Remember when creating an intent or affirmation, to state it in positive language, in the present tense; (i.e., “I am a healthy forty-five year old, taking care of my body, mind and spirit”). Of course, always consult a medical practitioner for physical pain, discomfort or ailments to ensure you receive the proper care.

Remember the simple formula; Body + Mind = One, and actively commit to transforming that One into a healthy, positive, conscious self through positive thought, intent and action.
